In my own little world;
warm with whiskey,
raped by rum,
shivering succulence,
so distant, so near
to those present in my eyes.
It feels good to fall in,
fall out,
look out the window of peace
and never have to move a curtain.
Hindered view,
perfect sight
to a presence
only buzzed.

In the early hours of morning,
and the latest time of night,
I see the fireflies fighting
over which gives better light.
I smell the moon at harvest,
and taste the creeping sun;
the safety in these little things
says I'm the only one.
Captured blades of moistened grass,
drinking drops of dews;
even in sunlight, I see the stars
twinkling in my view.
Peaceful hours of calm
before the fireflies take flight;
orange skies or endless blue,
they bless my day or night.

We stared deep into each others eyes for what seemed like an eternity.
I took in every freckle in your hazel eyes,
every inconsistency.
I took in the various shades, the browns and greens;
watched as your pupils dilated accordingly when focusing on my eyelashes.

I wanted you.

I wanted your sweat mixing with mine, I wanted our breaths in unison.
I wanted to hear you panting and moaning, feel your heat mingle with mine.

But you’re not mine.
And you never will be again.

You wanted me just as much.

I could see it in your eyes,
in the way your lips parted.
You reached to touch me,
but stopped just short of my thigh.

We both knew you couldn’t, I’m not yours.

We loved each other once.
We still do, let’s not kid ourselves.

But we ruined everything.
We’ve broken each others hearts too many times;
there’s no hope for us ever again.

I kissed you anyway.

between us there is no shame
though tomorrow never came
we all win this cosmic game

Bloodlust and dark forces are at work at the House of Night…
Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school are about to take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be her friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this “highly addictive series” (Romantic Times), in which Zoey’s mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn’t have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover about the secretive and sinister power that’s turning dead fledglings into bloodsucking monsters must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity.
Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected position of having three boyfriends. Mix in more than a little forbidden desire to the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster of massive proportions. Then, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey’s horrid step-loser in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem…

I really liked the third installment in the House of Night series. I know that these are YA books, but I can't help but be engrossed in the storyline. The plot twists are so exciting and interesting that it is difficult not just to read through this whole series in one day! The story seems to be getting darker and darker as the books progress, which makes me like the stories that much more. I can't wait to read Untamed and see what happens to Zoey and her gang!

Books read this year: 49/50.

Help to recall a novel

I'm trying to recall the name of a novel I read some years ago. The novel itself was pretty old, a classic, and the only part that seems to have remained with me is the burning of a church. There were 2 men, one was possibly being followed by the other. The arson of the church was deliberate, intended to conceal documents - possibly about someone's true identity. I'm reasonably sure I remember a tv adaptation too.

I think it was by someone like Willa Cather, or maybe Wilkie Collins... anyone got any ideas?

house of cards.

posted by: keep_frozen in poetssociety

These wishes are countless
Fragile and meaningless
Like a house of cards
They fumble, they're worthless
In the end
What is left?
What good can this do?
What can be learned
From the pain we go through?
These fists are still bruised
From the walls my hands kissed
And these knees are still bruised
From the steps my feet missed
My heart is a cave,
With each day it grows deeper
This doll lays here broken,
So why would you keep her?
Don't make her believe
That this space on the shelf
Was meant just for her
When the hands have been dealt
And what does she have?
Not even two of a kind
No flushes,
No straights,
She may as well be blind
'Cause these numbers won't change,
There's nothing left to arrange.
That house of cards you cannot live in,
You must play with what you're given.

Squirming happily with laughter and glee,

I envy the way that she sees,

All the good things in life,

All the while, patiently picking laughter,

The dye is cast, the dice are rolled
I’m still falling like autumn
You're still as alive as spring
I feel like shit, you look like gold

We never did see the world as infinitely infinity
I never saw the truth as it was
We always were too compelled by the beauty
Of our own fucking hypocrisy

You don’t look at me today,
Your heart is heavy and so is mine
Maybe we’ll cross paths again on the way
Up the path where only the loneliest stars shine

I am a fool to have dreams, they say.

Money is my only hope, they also declare.

But money, bills come from trees,

That’s how papers are made.

Why then, do you chop trees down

As if they are not money, something you love

So much?

The moon shines beautifully tonight,

Tomorrow will be fair – a lovely sign.

There are wars going on

Under the same vast sky.

How many lives – of people, of trees, of insects –

Must die for you to understand...

I am a fool to dream of saving our planet.

But I’d rather stay a fool than being a

Traitor of our one and only

Home.

in my eyes you do no wrong
a fool's errand misleads indeed
yet when you punctuate like so
your timing feels unjustly slow

yet in my eyes you do no wrong
a fool's fallacy is what he bleeds
and when your dignity's lost inside
your broken fall's displaced by mine

still in my eyes you do no wrong
these cracks echo throughout the cave
yet when you pass me on to truth
your cunning blooms before the moon

i suppose in my eyes you do no wrong
despite everything you've done;
love's altruistic tendencies aside;
descend to hell beyond the night.
